Raeka Ravindran
Raeka Ravindran, P. App., CRA, has been a member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) for 20 years and in 2024 became the first woman of colour to join the AIC National Board of Directors. Since joining the AIC in 2004, she served on the Toronto Executive Chapter in 2016 and was the Provincial Director (Toronto & York Region) on the AIC Ontario Board in 2019. Over the years, Raeka has actively participated in various AIC Ontario conferences, committees, events, and chapter meetings, with ongoing attendance at many AIC National conferences. Additionally, she held dual Board of Directors positions within her Condominium Association from 2011 to 2014, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to volunteerism and advocacy.
Raeka started her 24-year career in residential valuation in 2000 as an Office Manager at a valuation firm while studying at the University of Toronto. As an AIC Candidate, she completed thousands of residential appraisals for mortgage financing and was a Real Estate Salesperson and TREB member from 2008 to 2012. Over the past decade, she transitioned to the ‘Non-Fee’ sector, holding senior national roles at three of Canada’s ‘Big 5’ Banks (BMO, TD, and RBC) in areas such as Risk Oversight, Product Operations, Vendor Management and Home Equity Financing. She has comprehensive knowledge of Credit lending, Policy, Risk Systems, Automated Valuation Models (AVMs), Mass ‘Blanket’ Valuation for pre-construction, OSFI regulations and Real Estate Market trends, serving as the liaison between the bank and stakeholders, including the AIC, CNAREA, AMCs, Canadian mortgage insurers, Teranet, and appraisers across Canada.
Currently, Raeka is the Managing Director & Chief Appraiser at Leander Property Appraisals, a 40-year established residential valuation firm serving Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. With a passion for PropTech, including Al machine learning, AVMs, and data analysis, she is also involved with a PropTech startup, exploring industry advancements.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Raeka holds dual Canadian/Australian citizenship and moved to Toronto in 1996, where she lives with her 2.5-year-old son, Kai. In her free time, Raeka is an avid chess and poker player.
