Resume:

My name is Philip Quade, I am a student member of the AIC, currently enrolled in UBC's Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) program. I am making a career change into the real estate industry after 20 years as an Audio Visual Technician & Audio Engineer. Throughout that time I also have gained experience in Digital Marketing and have been running my business - Philip Quade Media - since 2013, as a professional rock climbing and mountain sport photographer and writer. This included working with both Climb Escalade Canada (Canada\'s national federation for sport climbing) and Team Canada, for both national and global competitions. I have a background in carpentry and renovation contacting and currently run a part-time demolition business - HQ Demolition - in Calgary, and contract casually with Little Leaf Interiors as a renovation contractor. Building houses and renovating properties on the Sunshine Coast of BC sparked my interest in real estate investment, as many of our projects involved investors, flippers and vacation properties. This also included the opportunity to lead projects for full site development of bare land. I began independently studying real estate investing in 2022, researching cash-flow analysis, BRRRR & Fix-n-Flip techniques, market analysis and anything i could sink my teeth into - my library continues to grow. I have always had an interest in building and in real estate, but this deep dive unlocked my passion for it. In June 2023 I bought my first property, moved in and began renovations (slowly). I then started exploring options to move from working in the tech and marketing industries, to making a full move into the world of real estate. I enrolled this spring to UBC after months of research and consideration, I found the DULE to be my best next step. With my first semester almost complete, I am looking to move into my first roll in the industry. I am enrolled for BUSI 330 for the Fall term, commencing Sept. 1, 2024, in preparation for becoming a candidate member in 2025. As well I am registered for, and will shortly being the AIC Introduction to Professional Practice Seminar (ITPP). I am looking to get my foot in the door with a team where I will have the opportunity to step into the industry and grow my role as my education proceeds. I am open to, and look forward to the opportunity to travel as part of my role. I am based in Calgary, AB., but have the opportunity to entertain hybrid job prospects across Alberta and Ontario. I am excited for these next steps in my career change and look forward to continuing to grow my network across the appraisal community and Canada's real estate industry.
