Path to AIC Designation

AIC offers two recognized designations that open doors to a career in professional appraisal: Canadian Residential Appraiser – CRA® and Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute – AACI®.

  • The Canadian Residential Appraiser (CRA®) designation qualifies professionals to appraise single-family homes, semi-detached houses, townhouses with up to four units, condominiums, and residential vacant land.
  • The Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI®) designation provides the expertise to appraise all property types, including land, agricultural properties, machinery and equipment, as well as commercial and residential buildings.

Membership, and Paths to Designation

Student Membership

For individuals who have not completed a university degree.

AIC Candidate Path to Designation

For individuals in the process of completing, or who have completed a Canadian university degree.

Accelerated AACI Candidate

Accelerated path to AACI. Requires a Canadian university degree in business or commerce. Delivered in collaboration with the University of British Columbia (UBC)’s Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation program (PGCV).

International Path to Designation

For individuals with a degree from an international university.
