Become a Property Valuation Specialist – Centralized Properties (2) with MPAC
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is made up of a team of experts who understand local communities and assess every property in Ontario. What we do provides the very foundation that municipalities use to base the property taxes needed to pay for the services we use every day.

You have:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field such as Real Property Administration, Real Estate and Housing, Geography, Urban Planning or related field
- Completion of a professional designation from one of the following recognized accrediting organizations:
o Appraisal Institute of Canada: Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI™)
o International Association of Assessing Officers: Certified Assessment Evaluator (CAE)
o Institute of Municipal Assessors: Member of the IMA (MIMA)
o Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors: Member of RICS (MRICS), or Fellow of RICS (FRICS) - At least 5 years of experience in the valuation discipline
- Expert knowledge of appraisal techniques and theory
- Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills to undertake investigation of valuation issues
- Exhibit strong communication skills to liaise with and convey valuation concepts and theories to internal and external stakeholders
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of the economic, environmental and political forces on industrial sectors that impact the value of real property
- Knowledge and experience in the application of valuation tools including cost manuals, multiple regression analysis
- Knowledge of assessment related legislation and regulations, including the Assessment Act and the Municipal Act
What you will do:
- Maintain current property values, review and respond to formal challenges such as Request for Reconsiderations and Appeals to properties in an assigned portfolio
- Inspect, collect, research and analyze data relevant to the valuation process
- Apply appropriate valuation approach(es) as required by property classification
- Communicate and provide appropriate customer service to MPAC employees, taxpayers and municipalities
- Appear before tribunals and courts as an expert witness to explain the methodology and process for determining the assessed value
- Identify economic factors that may influence the assessed values of complex properties throughout Ontario
- Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external business stakeholders to proactively communicate valuations and standards
- Be involved in various complex property types
